House and Now, Home

2022 nears to a close so I will update you on the housebuilding project for Dan and Anna. THEY ARE IN AND LIVING IN THE HOUSE! Yay! They moved in shortly before Thanksgiving with an approved Certificate of Occupancy after a few months of delay. A recall on the electric panel boxes that had been installed required some back and forth with the manufacturer and several visits from a certified electrician to fix. We had three of the greater than 1 million recalled boxes. This brou-ha-ha delayed final inspection from August to mid-November, so our soft goal of having them move in within a year of starting construction didn’t quite pan out. As of early November they had one complete bathroom and a complete kitchen (minus a few cabinet doors). While waiting on and pushing the bureaucratic wheels, Dan and Anna planted 24 good sized trees, part of their water/drain management and environmental impact plan requirements (they do have rather cumbersome town permit requirements). Throughout the fall we had been travelling down about 1x monthly to work on the other bathrooms and tidying up projects: painting, more electrical, plumbing. Unfortunately, there were a few water issues inside causing some floor damage, so as they say, two steps forward and one step back. We’ll be going back to help repair some of the flooring but Dan and Anna are well on their way to finishing the rest of the bathrooms on their own. What’s left to do after that are door installations and applying floor and window trim. Maybe get a dog. Goals for 2023: finish the porch and back deck and maybe start building the garage. Any volunteers???

Entry bathroom toilet install and ‘test’.
Kitchen cabinets. Glass doors installed above side unit later.
Jack ‘n Jill bath.
Master bath heated floor mat, now tiled.

Going down to PA to help DanAnna with the house this fall has kept us busy but so too did visiting my mom in Buffalo who turned 90 this year. She’s homebound but doing all right for now and appreciates the visits. Our family is learning that ‘it takes a village’.

Mom’s 90th birthday. One sister, Diane, in Boston. Tricia, of course, in heaven.
Christmas looking a little different this year.
