Well, friends, our trip has come to a premature end. Due to the decision of the Argentine president to quarantine all incoming USA citizens (among others), our tour organization decided to cancel the remainder of our tour. On day One! Since no details about who would be detained, it was in our best interest to leave. Also, American Airlines will be suspending flights to BA and presumably from there as well. So we made plans to depart. Despite all that, we have felt medically safer here and are sad to leave. And maybe a little anxious.
Flight re-arrangements were made with some patience required on our part, no easy thing. Our tour director and the whole Odysseys Unlimited organization has been supremely helpful. Since we had made plans to continue our travel beyond the tour, specifically hiking in Patagonia and Calafate, we will have to seek additional credit or refunds later. Poor Greg! He worked so hard on those plans! Oh well, that’s what travel insurance is for and now we may have something to look forward to next March!
But before this whole kerfuffle happened we had begun the day on tour revisiting some of BA and seeing a new area: La Boca. Adjacent to the Boca Jr. football field ( i.e.soccer) this eclectic, boisterous, rustic neighborhood was settled by the working class and sailors back in the day . It is now a charming tourist destination featuring artists and musicians. The wayward shanties are stacked like children’s blocks and are brightly multicolored as they typically used leftover ship’s paint. Here is where the tango was invented. Unfortunately we will miss the tango show. I guess we’ll continue watching DWTS! Greg bought a leather wallet before we got the bad news that the trip was ending.
It took some time to reorganize our return trip and surprise! Turns out Greg had treated us with a business class return ticket 3 weeks hence that we converted to today. We awaited our airport departure with a visit to the hotel pool. How does one relax after an afternoon of stress, why, by watching a Kiwi Rugby team enter, strip, and jump in the pool!!! Perfect ending to Friday the 13, good luck for me!!! Stay well!
