Shuffling Off

After a relaxing drive through the ACTUAL upstate NY (from the ADK through Tughill Plateau and onto Rochester), I stayed Sunday night with my brother and sister in law Bob and Tina outside of Ontario, NY on the shores of Lake Ontario. I love chatting with them, and Tina and I did a 5 mile walk, talking the whole way.  We also had a visit from her brave friend battling AML, a very inspiring, amazing woman; I worked on therapies for AML for a few years.  It was a wonderful reminder how important our research is.

After a bit of tea in the morning, I visited my ‘brother in law’ Serge and we planned a summer memorial hike for my sister Tricia.  I moved on to Buffalo to see my Mom in rehab.  She is doing amazingly well and will be coming home tomorrow, so I am glad I got to meet with her PT staff so I can really work her when I get her home. I would make a great nurse as I have little/no empathy; I would get her to do the work and get her better.  I left her to take a nap so I went on a hike in 18 Mile Creek State Park, a stream and gorge of immense proportions and a picturesque water fall as well.  Then I met up with my youngest sister Terry and we visited over an amazing Italian dinner near the former Buffalo steel plant, went back to see Mom and got her ready to come home tomorrow.

I was thinking as I was driving at first to see Serge at his office, and then to see my Mom, that I usually travel by  heading in the direction I knew a place to be, and then later would consult GPS or call for an address, and that is basically how life proceeds:  in a general direction that with assistance with friends gets you to the place you want to go.  Just a passing thought.

I’ll be playing nurse for a while, but will be seeing a lot of family in the meantime, especially with Easter upon us.  So many Polish Catholic traditions to share.  I’ll keep you posted.
