TGIR (Thank God I’m Retired)

Today my efforts were directed towards fitting my clothes into a smaller closet.  I jettisoned approximately 50% before the move, though there’s still lots left.  I kept some work appropriate clothes ‘just in case’.  Located nearby is the Trudeau Institute where they study tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.  Saranac Lake was known as a place to “take the cure” with it’s clear, cold night air.  Dr. Trudeau was treated for tuberculosis and stayed on to conduct research here.  There are also some biotech remnants of the Upstate Biotechnology sale. But no, not yet (if ever)! Work can wait, although I’ll hang onto the clothes.  For now I’m tramping about in Wellies or hiking boots or slippers.  They are certainly ‘work appropriate’ for now.  All my other shoes are packed in the garage or storage unit somewhere.  I have often asked people how many pair of shoes they own; most people underestimate, I certainly do!

My back is sore from lifting, so I finished reading my book “The One in a Million Boy”.   Nice read, interesting perspective from a centenarian on life by way of interaction with a curious, quirky Boy Scout.   I’m also packing as I plan on heading out early next week to stay with my 84 year old mom as she recuperates from knee replacement surgery; makes for fewer things to fit into the closet for now.

I’ve been playing Scrabble vs. the computer. I can win at ‘skilled’ but fail miserably playing against ‘advanced’ and have yet to recognize any word the computer plays.  At least when I play Kelly (not a computer) I recognize the words she artfully crushes me with.  Certainly that is a talent that no computer can match.  All this practice will enable me to compete at a reasonable level vs. my mom, who can hold her own against anyone or anything, armed with her high school diploma and love of reading.

It’s been snowing lightly all day but that did not stop Hughesnet Jim from installing, wait for it……………..INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  No trees were felled and here I sit finishing off this blog post after inserting the nonsensical 16 digit password.  I’m finishing off the $600 average priced wine (doesn’t taste so good today) and will actually make dinner tonight. And thanks to my good friend Jenna, Greg and I will have chocolate covered strawberries from Edible Arrangements for dessert! Thanks Jenna!
